Power Our Women Self Defence was founded in 2016 by Shana Pasapa. She is an indigenous woman and mother of two boys from the White Bear First Nations in the Treaty Four Territory. “You’re beautiful my girl, but you need to be careful and keep your head up” is a message she will always remember from her mother when she was 12 years old. It was said, only to bring awareness to the reality of being a woman in this world, not to become paranoid. Her mother wanted her to walk confidently with her head up and be aware, a lesson of protection. "The struggles and triumphs of our ancestors is the root of POW. our nation and our families." - Shana Pasapa Shana believes if we work together, we can build strong, confident leaders in our community today!

P.O.W. provides effective self defence techniques and real life situational training. We aim to build the confidence of our students by helping them see what their body is truly capable of. Self defence and body awareness training is one step towards reclaiming your power. We not only want to power women with self defence but also instill the attitude and strength to be strong leaders in our community. Our program is designed with a holistic approach on situational awareness and learning to protect and defend yourself, your family, your home and belongings. We believe it is important to fuel and protect your body properly for whatever life you’re living. Your real home is not your house, your reserve or even your country, but your body. Shana Pasapa - Founder & CEO of Power Our Women
A Nakoda woman, originally from the Whitebear First Nation in Treaty 4 territory. She will strike you with her power, beauty, strength and wisdom. She draws strength from her mother, family, her traditional spirit name, coaches and training partners. She strives to live each day in honour of her spirit and her voice so that she may fulfill her purpose to help people see the power they already have inside them.
At only 31 years old, Shana is a mother of 2 boys, an MMA fighter, purple belt in jiujitsu training out of Queen City Martial Arts in Regina, Saskatchewan. She found her passion in martial arts 8 years ago. At the time she didn’t realize it but she was finding her power again. Being a mother with 2 boys, she persevered through struggles that helped her create a healthier life for her family. POW was born through the realization of how truly important it is to see what the human body is capable of when in dangerous situations - which POW simulates in controlled environments. Shana received the CBC Future 40 Award in 2015, The Strength of Our Women Award for Sports in 2015 and has been a sponsored athlete by clothing companies. Shana received the Buffalo Award for Community Safety from the First Nations Safety Association of Saskatchewan. Shana is a public speaker and enjoys teaching hoop dance in her community.
